Welcome to the Soap Shop

Welcome to all of you who are reading this first post of the Soap Shop Blog!  I thought it was high time to join the ranks of bloggers and to give you a glimpse of life here in the Soap Shop but most importantly life here at our Monastery in Clyde, MO.   We are a contemplative community of Sisters located in the northwest corner of the state, having been founded from Switzerland in 1874.

I know I will show you photos of our whole monastery at some time but for now here is where I am coming to you from:

Sunrise over the Soap Shop

Sr. Judy Neisen helps me full time in the shop which is a wonderful gift.   I’ve taught her to make the lotions and she ably oversees the production of those items in our product line.  Today we have another visitor in the shop: a young woman who is discerning her call to our way of life.  Every year we sponsor “Spring Break Monastic Experiences.”   Working in the soap shop has come to be a favorite work assignment while visiting here.

The weekend is fast approaching.   The soap pot is cleaned and ready for next week’s production.   If there is anything that you would be interested in hearing about just let me know.   Have a blest day.
